Cluny Farm Centre is a working farm in Sun Valley Kyalami which provides a home, care , security and an environment for self-development for adults living with intellectual disabilities.


To ensure that residents live happily and productively  in a safe and caring environment.


Cluny Farm Centre was founded on 28 August 1962 by Mrs. Helene McDougall. It started on a 8 hectare plot of 69 Witpoort/406JR with just one small house on donated by the Crause`s.

From there it grew from strength to strength. Other pockets of land on Witpoort farm were purchased for expansion purposes

Meet our team

Sharon Theron

General Manager

Sharon Theron has been appointed GM of Cluny Farm effective 1 July 2019. Sharon studied Social Work at the University of Pretoria and has twenty-one years working experience in the NGO sector which includes residential care, management and developmental social work, project management, fund raising, and hospice and palliative care. Sharon is warmly welcomed into the Cluny family.

Basani Maremba

Social Worker

Basani started working at Cluny in Sep 2017 after rendering service to people with special needs and their families in 2015.

She is passionate about the Residents and always makes time to listen to them. Basani treat them as unique individuals - learning a lot from daily experiences.

Elise Steyn


Elise started working at Cluny Farm in 2006. She decided it was time for a change after 21 years in a corporate environment. At first it took time to get use to the Cluny Culture but she was soon part of the family. Elise became very fond of the Residents and likes to help them with little things, where she can.

She also loves music and always tries to arrange some entertainment for their functions. Residents have a lot of affection and trust for her.

Portia Shabeng

Senior Care Worker

Portia joined Cluny Farm in February 2011.  It has been a very challenging journey; however each day is a learning curve for her.

Some of Portia’s responsibilities include:- ensuring that the day-to-day needs of the Residents are met; she arrange the medication for the Residents and supervise the Care Workers as well. Portia is always willing to go the extra mile.

Jock Flemmer


After a period of semi retirement, Jock joined the staff of Cluny in November 2000. Jock is always willing to assist the Residents where possible and helps other Staff Members in the overall running of the Farm. Staff and Residents know they can always depend on Jock when necessary.


We will be a model organisation focused on the right to a dignified and meaningful life of every intellectually disabled adult in our care, developing them to their optimal potential. We will continue to train and mentor other organisations in our field of expertise.
